mery Yuanda, came home after 7 years apart by the tsunami Aceh (2004)

The 8-year-old Indonesian girl separated from her family after being washed away in the 2004 tsunami spent the last seven miserable years as a beggar — regularly beaten by the cruel woman who took her in.
Meri Yuranda, now 15, told her harrowing tale after being reunited with her parents in the city of Meulaboh on Wednesday.
“When she saw her mother she yelled, ‘Mama!’ and ran toward her,” her father said. “Both of them hugged each other and cried.”

“When I saw my mother, I knew it was her,” the girl said. “I just knew.”
Meri told her parents that after they were separated — when the tsunami devastated their town in the Aceh district on Dec. 26, 2004 — she was found by a widow and taken to the nearby village of Banda Aceh.

 

SURVIVOR: Meri Yuranda  reunites with mom Yusniar, baby brother Aris and dad Yusuf at their home in Indonesia yesterday.

 

The widow “adopted” her, she said, renamed her “Wati,” and

forced her to beg on the streets, often until 1 a.m. To keep her obedient, the woman beat her regularly, Meri recalled.

TRIBUNNEWS.COM - PERINGATAN tsunami tahun ini bakal menjadi kebahagiaan luar biasa bagi pasangan Tarmius (42) dan Yusnidar (36), warga Lorong Sangkis, Desa Ujong Baroh, Kecamatan Johan Pahlawan, Aceh Barat. Pasalnya, putri mereka bernama Meri Yulanda alias Herawati (16) yang pernah hilang tujuh tahun lalu dalam peristiwa tsunami, tiba-tiba Rabu (21/12) malam kembali ke rumah orang tuanya.

Riot in Bima Indonesia Killed Some People , This unrest began from demonstration to mining exploration, watch the video at the end of this posting : President SBY has instructed national police to investigate the clash in Sape port, Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, which reportedly killed some people.

President instructs an investigation, whether provocateurs or security officers acted improperly, said Julian Aldrin Pasha, spokesperson of President SBY.

Coordinating minister for politics and security affairs Djoko Suyanto and Police Chief Timur Pradopo have reported the case to President SBY this morning.

National Police claimed three provocateurs and 31 others have been arrested in the incident. Environmental NGO Walhi had earlier claimed three people killed in the clash.

The clash broke out of a protest from local residents against gold mine operation of PT Sumber Mineral Nusantara over a 24,984 hectares. Residents reject mining operation because of its location nearby rice fields and residential area.

Sumber Mineral Nusantara is 95% owned by Arc Exploration Limited, a company listed on ASX controlled by Indonesian businessman George Tahija.

Locals also demanded Bima Regent Ferry Zulkarnaen to revoke mining license of PT Indo MIneral Persada.

Local residents then set a blockade for almost five days since December 19. Police came to the area and dismissed the rally with gunshots Saturday morning.
